Liberal Democratic Parties amazing committment to their ideals…

Australia’s new libertarian “Liberal Democratic Party” really managed to sell it’s ideals of “smaller government, individual freedom” with this straight up presentation of their political ideology:

A person would really come away from there endorsing calls for less government interference in personal liberty, rather than say, presuming they’d joined a party that would fund a drag way in Canberra.

And it was because of this commitment to personal freedom that 900 people joined their party at Canberra’s SummerNats. Oh yeah.

Update: After this story was picked up by Larvatus Prodeo under the title “Libertarians for loud noise”, various members of the LDP decided to clarify their position:

“The LDP obviously does not support spending taxpayers money on a dragway in Canberra.” - David Leyonhjelm, LDP federal executive member.

“no one said anything about paying for it out of taxpayers dollars. It’s up to the enthusiasts and fans to pay for their own recreational activities.” - Michael Sutcliffe, LDP federal executive member.

Naturally we at the Dead Roo take full credit for kicking off the argument that led to these revelations about LDP policy hypocracy.

It looks like Australia is beating the United States in constructing state-funded NASCAR tracks. The Liberal Democrats must be after the equivelant of America’s “NASCAR Dads.”

Perhaps the reason for this is that the Liberal Democrats know from history that the Roman coliseum was effective at keeping the masses pacified. Then again, to watch cars go around in circles for five hours, you’d have to be practically hypnotized, so I’d say they’re taking things a step further!

They’re opputunists, cashing in on disgruntlment at the “nanny state”. You know, the one that won’t let them own guns, or race cars around.

I’m also waging a jihad against these Libertarian fruitloops. They must be crushed at any cost. :)

[…] Whilst spending only $430 a fortnight, I challenge you to save the thousand or so dollars that a prostate screening actually costs, and cover ALL your living expenses, and go about enjoying the wonderful (and expensive) “freedoms” you are so fond of advocating. I expect you to at least buy a gun and donate 1/200 000th of the cost of building a speedway in Canberra. […]
