National Party support “in da country”?
National Party veteran Bill Baxter is counting on deep seated support for the Nationals in rural areas to get him over the line against the Liberals Bill Tilley in the lower house seat of Benambra.
Unfortunately Baxter can’t find the volunteers to staff a single pre-polling station, so he’s resorted to paying schoolies. I’m reliably informed by a National Party campaign worker that they’re being paid seventeen dollars an hour. The campaign worker in question assures me that she has no ideological commitment to the National party cause and that she is only, “working on my tan whilst I save for schoolies”.
I’ve written a letter about this to the local conservative voice piece, the Border Mail, who’ve been running a concerted slur campaign against the Labor candidate. Let’s see if they publish it.

It appears the Border Mail won’t be publishing my little anti-Nationals rant, suprise suprise.
However the Nationals have started crating out the walking corpses they use for volunteers on election day, and the paid munchkins appear to have been sacked. The paid campaign workers were all “seeya tomorrow” on Tuesday and all gone on Wednesday.
The Nationals doing some damage control perhaps?
