Country for Sale? hah.

From the nineMSN website:

Sealand, the sea-fort turned world’s smallest country, is up for sale.

The tiny principality was known as Roughs Tower when it was built in 1941 by the British Navy and is a 550sqm steel platform perched on two concrete towers 11kms off the coast of Harwich, England.

It is accessible only by helicopter and boat but according to its owners, who want offers of eight digits or over, Sealand boasts uninterrupted sea views, guarantees complete privacy and is a tax haven.

Roy Bates has failed to spin a profit from Roughs Tower, despite his numerous efforts at doing so since squatting there in 1967 (and since 1999, by having someone squat there on his behalf). Now he thinks he can make a few bucks by “selling” it (despite the rather obvious problems relating to the fact he doesn’t own it as such).

It’s a curiosity, but what it’s not is a tax haven. It doesn’t have banks, it doesn’t have laws recognized by any other state. It’s just a lump of steel and concrete. You wont make any money hiding peoples money there, but with a bit of free disinformation from NineMSN, some idiot might part with a bit of cash.

Is it too much to ask that the likes of Nine do something resembling fact checking? (Probably.)

He might have fun selling it.. it’s not very pretty. Strange and amazing place.

Just found your blog… make sure you stick it up our grand Prime Minister as much as you can. Too much is never enough.

You and your readers might be interested in this blog, as well. It’s an open blog, bit like Wikipedia (in concept kinda), where everyone has the keys to get in and post, edit, make links etc. Just started, so anyone game enough to kick it along…?

WOFOBLOG

Found you from an Australian Blogs register, by the way.

Sorry for the interruption.. leave you to sharpen those swords!

Have you ever heard of a piece of software called wikiblog? Might be useful for your purposes.

Sorry to go OT, but this is just to let Kieran know that his entry in Catallaxy’s ‘Thick Sheik’ competition has been uploaded on our site. It’s been added to the ‘Hilalia’ post, otherwise we get whinges frm people with dial-up that the blog loads too slowly. I’ve included Kieran’s explanation as it makes the image funnier.
