Review: The God Who Wasn’t There

Brian Flemming’s The God Who Wasn’t There is an interesting attempt at a Michael Moore style broadside upon Christian religion. Flemming aims to raise questions in the minds of believers, starting with the inconsistencies in the story of Jesus before moving on to a critique of modern fundamentalist Christian practice in the United States.

Greens New Website

The Greens national website, www.greens.org.au has undergone a major overhaul. Compare the new site with the site circa November 2006 here.
The old blog like front page has been completely replaced. I can only assume this means the old content management system has been dumped. I had such fun teaching computer illiterates the basic html they […]

PM’s New Website

The PM’s webpage, www.pm.gov.au, has undergone a renovation. The 2003 - 2006 version of the PM’s website can be viewed here, the 2002-3 version here, and the earliest version (1998) here.
One of these days the government might even come close to designing a half decent content oriented web site. They’ve tried with this most recent […]

Answering all your questions Dr Paul

Recently recruited Club Troppo blogger and QUT sociologist Professor Paul Frijters has published a lovely list of those unanswerable questions that keep him interested in sociology.
I’m in a right foul mood, so I will now proceed to answer all of Dr Paul’s questions.

Review: The David Hick’s Advert

Evaluation: It could have been better.
GetUp have obviously decided that simplicity is best with this one. They’ve mastered the basics of persuasive technique, but I’m not so sure about Terry Hick’s voice. Obviously his is the logical voice to use, the whole father speaking for his son angle. But it feels like they tried a […]

Gender Bias in the Australia Day Honours

The result of several hours trawling the 2007 Australia day honours, the following are statistics I have managed to compile on the gender of honours recipients.
Of recipients of the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), 66.67% were male and 33.33% were female. Officer of the Order of Australia (General Division) (AO), 85.19% were male […]

Let the Self Congratulatory Textual Masterbation season begin!

It’s that time of year, when news is slow so everyone reverts to congratulating themselves. A peer reviewed (haha) collection of blog posts have been collected by Club Troppo and Catalaxy for the past month or so, and will soon be highlighted at Online Opinion. Naturally every blogger under the sun will spend the next […]

New Years Resolutions

Aparantly some people actually go to the length of writing down “resolutions” for the new year. Normally I just mumble something about fitness, savings and or study.
I’ve spent a fair part of the last year morose about the declining state of our society and the concurrent decline in the Australian polity. Translated, I’ve been sad […]

Year in Review: All the rest…

… I can barely be bothered keeping up the pretense of offering something resembling in depth retrospective thought on the issues of the year, so here’s “all the rest” on a horribly superficial level.
Broadly speaking, 2006 has seen the Australian community go backwards. This coming from a lefty is probably heartening news for the right […]

Honest John remains true to form on same-sex relationship rights

It is mentioned in my bio here that I read the Hansard of our Federal Parliament. I do not pore through every word, however! I do try and read portions of the debate which do interest me, or refer to major events. Needless to say, I almost missed reading a portion of in-committee Senate debate […]

Year in Review: Peace

Year in Review: Our take on the progress made on the key issues facing the Australian polity. Because it’s the end of the year, and self important navel gazing is what self important publications do at this time of the year.
2006 sucked. I don’t want to write this post. War in Iraq (which the US […]

Year in Review: Human Rights

Year in Review: Our take on the progress made on the key issues facing the Australian polity. Because it’s the end of the year, and self important navel gazing is what self important publications do at this time of the year.
Petro Georgio’s revolt in 2005 saw kiddies out of detention, 2006 saw whole families facing […]

Year in Review: Water

Year in Review: Our take on the progress made on the key issues facing the Australian polity. Because it’s the end of the year, and self important navel gazing is what self important publications do at this time of the year.
In 2006 Australia has gone backwards on the issues concerning water. It was the harshness […]
